Nail Bangers’ Golf Tournament Raises Nearly $8,000 to Fund Skilled Purpose Pilot Program

At the 24th Annual Nail Bangers’ Golf Tournament, members of the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod (HBRACC) did more than enjoy a sunny day on the greens — they helped build a pathway to new beginnings.

Thanks to a spirited raffle and silent auction, the tournament raised nearly $8,000 for the Skilled Purpose program — a new initiative of the Michael English House that provides carpentry training and workforce readiness support to individuals reentering society from the criminal justice system and on the road to recovery.

Building Purpose, One Tool at a Time

Slated to launch this fall, the Skilled Purpose pilot program will equip participants with real-world carpentry skills, OSHA 10 certification, mentoring, and job-readiness coaching. The goal? To provide not just a job, but a second chance, helping residents transition back into the workforce with dignity, purpose, and support.

“This is what our industry does best — we build,” said HBRACC Executive Officer Stefanie Coxe. “Skilled Purpose is about building more than structures — it’s about building hope, confidence, and futures for those who are ready to rebuild their lives. We’re incredibly proud to help make this vision a reality.”

Powered by Community

The tournament’s fundraising success included a silent auction featuring a complete kitchen appliance package, donated by HBRACC member Yale Appliance, which raised an impressive $6,000.

In addition, Yale Appliance hosted its own independent fundraiser for the Michael English House earlier in the month, showing the kind of deep community commitment that makes Cape Cod’s builder network so powerful.

“We believe in the power of the trades to transform lives,” said Yale’s Dennis MacDonald, Vice President of Sales. “It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the kitchen package we donated — along with our own fundraiser earlier this month — helped make this pilot program possible.”

More Than a Program — A Mission

The Michael English House is dedicated to supporting formerly incarcerated individuals in recovery through mentorship, structured accountability, and trauma-informed services. With the success of this fundraiser, the Skilled Purpose pilot is now fully funded and ready to launch its first cohort.

“We are honored and humbled by the support,” said Vincent English, Executive Director of the Michael English House. “This pilot program is now possible thanks to the generosity of the local building community — and with it, we’re helping restore lives and provide opportunity where it’s needed most.”

What’s Next

Later this year, HBRACC will host an information session for its members to learn more about Skilled Purpose — including how graduates are trained and vetted, what kind of employer support is provided, and how the program is working to reduce risk for companies who choose to give these individuals a second chance.
