Koopman Lumber Announces CEO Transition for Family Business’ Leadership Team; New CEO Denise (Koopman) Brookhouse Succeeds Outgoing CEO Dirk Koopman in January 2026

WHITINSVILLE, Mass. (December 2, 2025) -- Koopman Lumber today announced a planned CEO transition to reflect the company’s three generations of commitment to stability, family leadership, and long-term growth. Effective January 1, 2026, Denise Brookhouse will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Dirk Koopman, who has served as CEO since 2010. Dirk will transition into the president’s role, a new strategic position within the company, and Tony Brookhouse will remain in his role as Chief Operating Officer.

Since 1939, the Koopman family has grown from a solo retail store in the Central Massachusetts community to 17 locations across Massachusetts and Connecticut with the recent acquisition of Lyon & Billard.

This exciting leadership transition signifies a new chapter for the multi-generation, family-owned business and reinforces Koopman’s focus on institutional trust, legacy, and the strength of its values-driven leadership team.

According to Dirk Koopman, “It has been an honor to serve as CEO and soon-to-be President, and I’m proud of what we’ve built together. Moving forward, Denise brings a fresh perspective and strong financial management experience, and she keeps our values and culture at the forefront. I couldn’t be more confident in her ability to lead Koopman into its next chapter and do right by our employees, customers, and partners.”

Dirk Koopman will assume the role of President. In this new capacity, he will leverage his experience and deep lumber industry knowledge to support the company’s strategic direction, ensuring that the core values that define Koopman Lumber remain at the center of its growth.

Denise Brookhouse, incoming Koopman Lumber CEO, said, “I’m honored to step into the role of CEO, positioning us for continued growth and new opportunities. I’m excited to work alongside our talented leadership team to grow thoughtfully and keep our values at the heart of everything we do.”

“We believe the strength of Koopman comes from the collective expertise of our entire team,” said Dirk Koopman. “Every person here plays a part in shaping the future of our company. We are grateful for our incredible team and what we have accomplished together.”
